MY STORY
Hi, my name is Leda.
Hi, I'm glad you decided to get to know me a little better. So let me tell you my story.
I'm a fashion designer born and raised in Belgium. I've always been a person with a broad spectrum of interests, so when I had to choose a higher education, it wasn't easy. I wanted to study art, music, psychology, anthropology, archeology, photography and everything in between.
I chose to study graphic design. Even though I passed the first year with great grades, I really didn't feel confident carrying on. So I chose a different direction.
I started studying art in a different city and I immediately felt more at home. I was more relaxed, and more determined, but I soon realised I was working for the wrong motives.
My dad is a really good artist so I grew up going to exhibitions and art galleries. I never understood why people would always stand in front of one particular painting for half an hour whilst the other works were barely glanced at. I wanted to know why and who decided that this particular piece of art was better than the others. After four years of art history I realised I wasn't going to get an answer. I found myself stuck in archives writing what felt like the thousandth paper on pieces that didn't interest me (or anyone else). I changed course again and found clarity.
Since I was a child I loved sewing and making clothes. When I was four years old, I cut a few holes in a (very beautiful) pillowcase of my grandmother and made myself a dress (or so I'm told). Since then, she's taught me how to sew (I've consequently made countless princess dresses for my teddybear). When I graduated, I couldn't see her as often, but I still made dresses for myself. My skills were rusty, and I made a few mistakes, but I enjoyed the thrill of craft. I thought to myself, "Why not study fashion design? Why not learn all there is to learn and make my works even better? Why not go beyond what I already know and do and make myself a real designer?" I decided to not let people's discouragement about job security pressure me anymore. I made it my dream and I realised it. I finally found my passion.
Now I get to share that passion with you.
